Cute Little Stool Makeover
So I started on this project this past weekend and I
finished it on Saturday morning. I found this old stool in my neighbors trash
pile! I couldn’t believe she was just going to throw it away. So, like the
dumpster diver I am, I quickly retrieved it from the pile and added it to my
collection of “to do” projects.
I finally made my way around to getting started on it
(months later.) It was not a hard project at all. It was more of a, get past
the initial fear of trying something you have never done before project! I
cannot tell you how proud or how good I felt after completing it. Hello! It is
just a little stool-I am sure you this is what you are thinking- But to me,
this was a huge stepping stone and a huge hump to get over so that I could move
forward with this blog.
So I started by first taking the stool apart. I turned it
over and started unscrewing. I kept a mental note on what screws went where so
that I could put it all back together when I was ready. Now mind you, I have
never reupholstered anything in my life so this was a bit scary. I didn’t let fear get me though; I kept a
pulling and tuggin on the screws, took the legs off and then the board and
fabric that they were attached to. I had it all disassembled and I laid it all
out on my little work table in my garage. I sanded the little legs down so that
when I painted the paint would stick nicely. I then began to paint. I used a
turquoise blue from home depot. It was an awesome color and I am in love with
it. I wanted to go for the distressed/antiqued look so I used the Ralph Lauren
glaze that I learned about from one of my favorite blogs www.vintagerevivals.blogspot.com.
I put the glaze on the legs and then wiped it off so that it looked distressed
here and there.
I let that dry and I ran down to the fabric store with one leg in hand-and began the hunt for a fabric top to match. I only had the fabric store that is here in town to go to so my variety to choose from was not a lot. I did find the gray print and fell in love with it so I grabbed it and ran back home to finish.

So I put the padding that was originally used back on. I had
to get a new board cut at my home depot because the one that was there was not
lookin the greatest. It was so easy to have them cut one to size though. I
can’t believe I was ever so scared to ask for something so simple! That is what
they are there for! They are also helpful and nice.
I began pulling the new fabric over the new padding and wood
piece and then I stapled it down on the underside. I used a black piece of
cloth to cover all of that up on the bottom and then I screwed the lil legs
back on and voila- she was done! I was so happy I almost did a cart wheel!
Okay, I totally did a cart wheel in my drive way. My sons were laughing and
then started the “ I bet you can’t do this” game and I was trying hand stands
and walking hand stands and so on….
This project was fun and it made me feel amazing when I
finished it. Enough to have me addicted and wanting to make more and more! So I
went out Saturday afternoon and found a side table to remake! I started on it
that same day! I will be posting about that in the next few days! Sorry about
the not-so-awesome pics. I am saving up for a nice camera someday….
