Earth Day Dirt Cups

Earth Day

So the boys and I celebrated Earth Day by making some "Earthy" treats for all the littles in our family(cousins.) I found this recipe on Pintrest and here is the actual site it came from http://eatatallies.com/2010/08/dirt-cups/. Way cute blog.

The boys really enjoyed this project and I was glad that we could talk about the Earth and how important it is to do our part in keeping it beautiful and clean etc. My nieces and nephews totally loved the treats too!

I went out on Sunday morning to get the few ingredients that I did not have on hand.
Here is what the recipe calls for:

Dirt Cups
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
2 (3.5 ounce) packages instant chocolate pudding mix
3 1/2 cups milk
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 1/2 packages of Oreos

Now, you have to crush up the Oreos. The gal on the blog has a food processor. I do not. This means we get to crush the Oreos up all by ourselves. So we put the Oreos in a baggy and the crushing began! Yes that is  a bag of Oreosthat my son is "crushing." They loved every minute of it!
Oh wow Tisi, you really take  crushing seriously!  Ha!After the crushing began all the mixing of the ingredients for the pudding stuff.

So that means, mix your pudding up according to the directions. We used Pistachio because my boys love that pudding and because it was green so it seemed to fit the "Earthy" theme.
After you mix the pudding you mix the cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar and then you mix both of the mixes together! Then you get all of your ingredients together so that you can start filling the cups. You can do this anyway you want. After eating one of the finish products I decided that my next try I will add a tiny bit of dirt for the 1st layer, then  will add quite a bit of cream filling and then another layer of the dirt and then the worms or whatever.

So once your done building the cups you will put them in the fridge to cool. They are much better completely chilled- I found this out after eating one not chilled and then one that was chilled.

This project was tons of fun and easy to do. I will use this for other times like Halloween or a birthday party with a bug theme or things like that! There are a ton of ideas you can come up with or maybe you have already. They are delish!
